The Georgia Department of Corrections announced on May 18 the promotion of Wilson Hall to Director of Special Operations, effective May 16. As Director, Hall will oversee the agency’s Fire and Life Services, Transportation, and Special Operations units.
This appointment is significant because it places an experienced leader at the helm of several key operational areas within one of the largest prison systems in the United States. The Georgia Department of Corrections supervises approximately 49,000 state prisoners and employs about 9,000 people.
Commissioner Tyrone Oliver said, “During his thirty-two-year tenure, Wilson has consistently displayed a strong work ethic and exceptional leadership qualities. We are confident his extensive knowledge and practical skills in tactical and special operations will benefit him as he begins his new role as Special Operations Director.”
Hall began his career with the department in 1994 after serving in the United States Marine Corps. He has held various positions including Correctional Officer at Ware State Prison, Boot Camp Officer in Charge, Tactical Squad Commander, Shift Supervisor, Commander of the Hostage Rescue Team, Lead Instructor for Advanced Training at Georgia Corrections Academy (GCA), Assistant Academy Director at GCA, Manager of Special Operations, Deputy Director of Audits and Compliance, before returning to Manager of Special Operations prior to this latest promotion.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Thomas University.
