The Georgia Department of Driver Services announced on June 2 that residents whose driver’s licenses were lost or damaged over the Memorial Day Holiday can quickly replace them online. The DDS website, available around the clock, allows customers to order a replacement card without visiting a physical center.

Commissioner Angelique B. McClendon said, “We know that your time is valuable and gas is expensive, so why come into a center if you don’t have to? A replacement license (or ID) is typically received within 14 days. DDS provides a receipt that you can print and legally drive with, eliminating any reason to visit in person for this service.”

In addition to online services, self-service kiosks are available at many grocery stores across Georgia for added convenience. The department will use stored photos to produce and mail the replacement license to the address on file. Customers may use the printed receipt with photo as temporary proof of their replaced license or permit and continue driving legally until their new card arrives.

McClendon also said, “While we are excited to serve Georgians, data tells us more than half of our visitors could have performed their service online without a visit to one of our centers.” She noted that using temporary receipts should give customers confidence in using remote options such as DDS Online Services or self-service kiosks.

Remote replacements offer additional benefits, including a five-dollar discount and savings on gasoline and time away from work or school. For those who must visit in person, DDS recommends completing required paperwork on its website before arriving.
