The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division announced on May 22 that hunters will be able to apply electronically for most quota hunts starting June 1. These hunts include options for youth, deer, alligator, waterfowl, dove and others.

Quota hunts are scheduled events at Wildlife Management Areas or other state-managed properties where only a limited number of hunters can participate. Quota levels are set to ensure a quality hunting experience, minimize crowding and protect game populations. Selected participants must have the proper licenses.

“Having quota hunts allows us to offer a wide variety of high-quality hunts year after year,” said Tina Johannsen, Assistant Chief of the Game Management Section with the Wildlife Resources Division. “Mark your calendars now so you don’t forget to apply.”

Hunters can apply by visiting GoOutdoorsGeorgia.com and selecting “Quota Hunts.” Applicants should make sure their email addresses are current in order to receive updates or confirmations about their application status. Those needing assistance with the process can call 1-800-366-2661.

Deadlines vary by hunt type: July 15 for alligator, August 15 for dove (including adult/child hunts), and September 1 for most deer hunts (including youth). Youth applicants must be age 15 or under for youth quota hunts. For more information on deadlines and selection odds, visit GeorgiaWildlife.com/hunting/quota.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources manages facilities including state parks, historic sites and fish hatcheries; employs about 2,700 staff members; maintains an annual budget of $355 million; supports conservation efforts; promotes cultural heritage through educational programs; has received national recognition for innovation; and focuses on sustaining natural resources while promoting commerce through sound environmental practices, according to the official website.
