The Georgia Department of Transportation announced that a new bridge on the west end of Fiddler Green Road over Red Bluff Creek is scheduled to open next week, while a second bridge on the east end of the same road will close for replacement. The new west bridge is located about 6.5 miles southeast of Pearson, and the east bridge set to close is less than a mile south of Axson.

A detour for non-local and through traffic will remain in place for the east bridge closure, and motorists are advised to follow posted detour signs. The department said it awarded an approximately $4.75 million construction contract in late 2025 for replacement of both bridges.

Both bridges are situated on Fiddler Green Road over Red Bluff Creek in Atkinson County. The scheduled date for opening the west bridge and closing the east bridge is Wednesday, May 27, though this date may change due to weather or other factors.

The Georgia Department of Transportation delivers transportation solutions that support economic development and benefit residents across the state, employs about 4,000 staff members with an operating budget over $4.5 billion, focuses on developing and maintaining Georgia’s roadways while supporting rail, transit and other transportation programs, operates under the State Transportation Board, serves the entire state through its transportation network, and works with local governments and federal agencies to advance transportation efforts, according to the official website.

Further details can be found at the organization’s press release.
