The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on May 8 that lane and ramp closures will take place on Interstate 16, Interstate 95, and Interstate 516 in Chatham County as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. These closures are scheduled from Sunday, May 10 through Saturday, May 16, with both daytime and nighttime work affecting various sections of the highways.
The planned closures are necessary to support widening activities on I-16 and bridge work at key interchanges. The department said these measures are important for improving traffic flow and safety in the area. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution in work zones, reduce speed, stay alert for workers, and check real-time updates before traveling.
Daytime intermittent right- and left-lane closures will occur on I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange (milepost 164) to the I-16/I-95 Interchange (milepost 157), as well as eastbound from milepost 157 to milepost 164. Similar intermittent lane closures will also affect both directions of I-516 at the I-16 interchange between mileposts five and six. Nighttime double-lane closures are planned for portions of I-95 near the I-16 overpass.
Several ramps will be closed during nighttime hours with posted detours guiding motorists around affected areas. The advisory notes that only one ramp within each interchange will be closed at a time to minimize disruption. Continuous double left-lane closure is also scheduled for a section of eastbound I-16 between the I-95 Interchange (MP157) and Dean Forest Intersection (MP160) from Friday evening through Sunday morning.
