The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on March 20 that temporary lane closures will take place along State Route 400 as part of the ongoing Express Lanes project. The closures are scheduled to occur nightly from Monday, March 23 through Friday, March 27, affecting several locations between Fulton and Forsyth counties.
The lane closures are necessary to allow contractors to perform roadwork activities for the construction of new express lanes along a roughly 16-mile stretch of State Route 400. The affected area extends from the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority North Springs Station (Exit 5C) in Fulton County to about one mile north of McFarland Parkway (Exit 12) in Forsyth County.
Specific closures include a nightly right-lane closure on Old Dogwood Road southbound at Holcomb Bridge Road, nightly flagging operations on Colquitt Road southbound at Brentwood Way and Roberts Drive westbound at the SR 400 overpass, and a nightly bus lane and shoulder closure on Mansell Road westbound at the SR 400 northbound entrance ramp. Most work will take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., with some work on Mansell Road occurring from midnight to 5 a.m.
Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce speed while traveling through these work zones. The department notes that schedules may change due to weather or other factors. For real-time updates on traffic conditions and work status, drivers can visit the SR 400 Express Lanes website, call “511,” go to 511ga.org, or use the “Georgia 511” app.
