The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on Apr. 3 that temporary lane closures will take place along State Route 400 as part of the ongoing Express Lanes project. The affected area covers approximately 16 miles, stretching from the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority North Springs Station in Fulton County to about one mile north of McFarland Parkway in Forsyth County.

The planned lane closures are necessary to allow contractors to perform roadwork activities associated with the express lanes construction. Motorists are advised to expect delays, use caution, and reduce speed while traveling through work zones. Work schedules may change due to weather or other factors, and updates can be found on the SR 400 Express Lanes website or by calling “511,” visiting 511ga.org, or using the “Georgia 511” app.

Specific closures include a daily shoulder closure on the northbound entrance ramp from Northridge Road between April 6 and April 10 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as nightly right lane closures at Holcomb Bridge Road northbound at Market Boulevard intersection during the same dates from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The Georgia Department of Transportation delivers transportation solutions that support economic development and benefit residents across the state, according to the official website. The department employs about 4,000 staff members with an operating budget over $4.5 billion according to its official website. It focuses on developing and maintaining Georgia’s roadways while supporting rail, transit and other transportation programs according to its official website.

The department operates under the State Transportation Board according to its official website, serves all regions through its network according to its official website, and works with local governments and federal agencies on transportation efforts according to its official website. As one of the largest state transportation systems in the nation—with thousands of employees—it oversees roadway development for safety and mobility while supporting infrastructure projects such as bridges, rail initiatives, transit programs, and partnerships with other organizations according to its official website.

Motorists are encouraged by officials to stay informed about changing conditions during this period of construction.
