The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on May 15 that temporary nighttime lane closures will take place along State Route 400 as part of the ongoing Express Lanes project.
The planned closures are expected to impact motorists traveling between the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority North Springs Station in Fulton County and approximately one mile north of McFarland Parkway in Forsyth County. The department said these measures are necessary to perform roadwork activities for the construction of new express lanes along a roughly 16-mile stretch.
According to the advisory, southbound lanes from Majors Road to the Interstate 285 interchange and northbound lanes from I-285 interchange to Majors Road will experience nightly rolling left lane closures. These closures are scheduled from Monday, May 18 through Friday, May 22, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., weather permitting. The department warned that schedules may change due to weather or other factors.
Motorists are advised “to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones.” The announcement encourages drivers to check real-time information by calling “511,” visiting 511ga.org, or using the “Georgia 511” app for updates on traffic conditions and work status.
The Georgia Department of Transportation delivers transportation solutions that support economic development and benefit residents across the state; it employs about 4,000 staff members with an operating budget over $4.5 billion; focuses on developing and maintaining Georgia’s roadways while supporting rail, transit and other transportation programs; operates under the State Transportation Board; serves the entire state through its transportation network; and works with local governments and federal agencies to advance transportation efforts, according to the official website.
