The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced that road construction and maintenance projects will continue across Southeast Georgia from Saturday, December 6 through Friday, December 12. These activities may cause traffic interruptions on several major interstates and state routes.
Work schedules are subject to change due to weather or other factors. GDOT urges drivers to slow down in work zones, remain alert, and watch for workers.
On Interstate 95, lane closures are planned for northbound lanes between mileposts 111 and 112.5 in Chatham and Effingham counties for the SCDOT I-95 widening project. Additional maintenance and resurfacing will take place along various sections of I-95 in Chatham, Bryan, and Glynn counties with both daytime and nighttime lane closures.
Interstate 16 will see single lane closures under the Chatham Parkway Bridge for travel lane shifts and resurfacing. Shoulder closures are scheduled in Candler, Bulloch, and Effingham counties for installation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment.
On Interstate 516 in Chatham County, bridge maintenance work between Louisville Road and Tremont Road will require nightly lane closures throughout the week.
Several bridges across the region will be under construction or repair, including Lewis Frasier Road over Peacock Creek in Liberty County which remains closed for replacement with a detour provided via US 17 and US 84. Other bridge rehabilitation projects are ongoing at Cypress Mill Creek in Glynn County, Forest River in Chatham County, College Creek in Glynn County, Doctors Creek in Long County, Altamaha River Bridge between Long and Wayne counties, Satilla River between Pierce and Ware counties, Little McMillan Creek in Wayne County, among others.
