Georgia Department of Transportation announces traffic shift for SR 81 roundabout project

The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on May 18 that lane closures and a new traffic pattern will begin next week at the intersection of State Route 81 and New Morn Drive in Henry County. The change is part of stage three construction for a roundabout at this location, with work scheduled to start on May 27.

The upcoming changes are intended to allow crews to build the center island and concrete medians as part of the ongoing roundabout project. Motorists traveling through the area should expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce speed while moving through the work zone. Drivers are advised to check real-time updates by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.

“Lane Closures for State Route 81 st New Morn Drive to begin next week,” said District Three Communications. “Traffic on SR 81 and New Morn Drive will move into a circle pattern at the intersection.” The department also issued an advisory: “Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones.
