The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on March 20 that it awarded 18 projects totaling approximately $48.8 million at its monthly State Transportation Board meeting in February. Contracts were given to the lowest qualified bidders on March 6.
These awards are part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve transportation infrastructure across the state. The projects include resurfacing, construction, bridge rehabilitation, and safety upgrades in multiple counties.
The largest resurfacing project is valued at about $6.5 million and covers over 14 miles on State Route 53 in Barrow and Oconee counties. In total, resurfacing projects account for roughly $21.9 million, or 45 percent of the funds awarded. The biggest construction contract is worth around $10 million for concrete rehabilitation along more than 11 miles of I-20/SR 402 in Greene and Taliaferro counties; together with five other construction projects, this category represents another $21.7 million or 44 percent of the total.
Bridge rehabilitation received a single contract valued at approximately $3.5 million for work in Forsyth and Gwinnett counties, making up seven percent of the funds awarded. Four safety contracts make up the remaining four percent, including a project worth about $782,000 for railroad signing and pavement marking upgrades at various Central of Georgia Railroad locations.
According to the department’s announcement, these February awards bring total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2026—which began July 1, 2025—to about $1.9 billion. This figure includes TIA (Transportation Investment Act), Design-Bid-Build, and locally administered projects.
Contractors interested in future bidding must prequalify with Georgia DOT; more information is available on their website.
