The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 24 that it has awarded several new contracts for infrastructure projects in the agency’s east-central Georgia district.
The announcement outlines significant investments in road and bridge improvements across multiple counties, aiming to enhance transportation safety and efficiency in the region.
The largest contract, valued at $9.99 million, was awarded to Pittman Construction Company for concrete rehabilitation on Interstate 20 in Greene and Taliaferro counties. The project will begin near State Route 15 at Milepost 136 and extend to State Route 22 at Exit 148, with a scheduled completion date of January 31, 2027.
In Emanuel County, Gregory Bridge Company received a $1.65 million contract to replace the bridge on McGarrh Mill Pond Road over Daniel Mill Creek. The current bridge was built in 1959 and is considered structurally deficient. During construction, the road will be closed with an offsite detour expected to last about five months; however, a start date has not yet been determined. The project is set for completion by March 31, 2027.
All Star Concrete, Inc. secured an $858 thousand contract to resurface approximately two miles of State Route 12/US Highway 278 in McDuffie County from Ansley Road/Mt Pleasant Road to the Thomson Bypass. This work is expected to finish by January 31, 2027.
Additionally, Peek Pavement Marking LLC was awarded a $781 thousand contract for upgrading railroad signage and pavement markings at various crossings throughout Baldwin, Jasper, Morgan, Putnam, Washington, and Wilkinson counties. These upgrades are scheduled for completion by February 28, 2027.
These projects reflect ongoing efforts by the Georgia Department of Transportation to maintain and improve vital transportation infrastructure within east-central Georgia.
