The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on March 27 that construction and maintenance projects will continue this weekend across the metropolitan Atlanta area.
The ongoing work is part of GDOT’s efforts to improve highway infrastructure in the region. To help drivers avoid major delays, GDOT has created a dedicated webpage where the public can view all scheduled weekend lane closures at http://www.dot.ga.gov/ds/metrolaneclosures. The site allows users to filter information by traffic impact level, county, interstate, or state route. The schedule for lane closures is updated weekly and remains accessible until 10 a.m. each Monday.
Travelers are encouraged to check real-time traffic and travel conditions before heading out by calling Georgia’s free 511 phone service or visiting www.511ga.org. The service provides updates on incidents, lane closures, and delays statewide at any time of day or night. In metro Atlanta, callers can also request HERO roadside assistance through the same number.
According to the department, GDOT plans, constructs, and maintains both state and federal highways in Georgia while also supporting bridge work, waterways, public transit systems, railways, aviation programs, bike lanes and pedestrian paths. The agency employs nearly 4,000 people focused on innovation and safety within transportation.
