The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on May 7 that construction and maintenance work will continue across the metropolitan Atlanta area over the upcoming weekend.

This update is important for drivers in Metro Atlanta who may experience travel delays due to ongoing highway infrastructure improvements. The department aims to keep residents informed and help them plan their routes to avoid major disruptions.

A dedicated webpage has been created by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for viewing all scheduled weekend lane closures at http://www.dot.ga.gov/ds/metrolaneclosures. Lane closure information can be filtered by traffic impact level, county, interstate, or state route using a search tool. The schedule is posted weekly and remains accessible from Thursday at 4:00 p.m. until Monday at 10:00 a.m.

For real-time updates on travel conditions throughout Georgia’s interstates and state routes, drivers are encouraged to call 511 or visit www.511ga.org. The free phone service provides information about traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures, and delays statewide. In Metro Atlanta, motorists can also request HERO roadside assistance through this service.

The Georgia Department of Transportation delivers transportation solutions that support economic development and benefit residents across the state, according to the official website. The agency employs about 4,000 staff members with an operating budget over $4.5 billion while focusing on developing and maintaining roadways as well as supporting rail, transit and other transportation programs throughout Georgia. It operates under the State Transportation Board and works with local governments and federal agencies to advance transportation efforts while serving the entire state through its network.

The department stated that it is committed to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability and mobility in order to boost Georgia’s competitiveness.
