In April 2025, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) awarded 16 transportation contracts totaling approximately $68.2 million. The largest contract, valued at around $24 million, was allocated for the construction of a 0.767-mile bridge and its approaches on Bells Ferry Road over the Little River in Cherokee County. Another significant project, estimated at $7 million, involves bridge construction on SR 52 over the Chestatee River in Lumpkin County. These two projects, along with nine other construction contracts, represent about 84 percent of the total funds awarded.
A bridge rehabilitation project costing over $4.8 million will cover repairs at multiple locations along SR 92 and I-75/SR 401 in Cherokee and Gordon counties. Safety projects received approximately $3.7 million or about 6 percent of the funds. This includes pedestrian hybrid beacon crossing signals installations and intersection improvements in Clayton, DeKalb, and Fulton counties, as well as railroad crossing safety enhancements in Monroe County.
The remaining funds were directed towards a resurfacing project on SR 35 in Tift County covering 7.823 miles of milling and resurfacing work.
The awards contribute to a total of $1.8 billion in construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2025, which began on July 1, 2024. This figure includes various types of projects such as TIA and Design-Bid-Build.
Bids for these projects were received on April 18, with contracts awarded to the lowest qualified bidders by May 2, 2025. Contractors interested in future projects must prequalify with Georgia DOT.
