Starting tonight, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will close the intersection of State Route (SR) 316 and Barber Creek Road in Barrow County. This closure is needed for the construction of a bridge, ramps, and roundabouts. The project is expected to finish by the first quarter of 2027. Although this intersection will close, the main lanes of SR 316 will stay open.
The closure will prevent drivers from turning onto Barber Creek Road from SR 316 and vice versa. As of late April 30, heavy construction equipment and barriers will be placed in the median and along the shoulders at the intersection.
Georgia DOT advises southbound traffic from Barber Creek Road to use SR 53/Hog Mountain Road and SR 211/Bethlehem Road. Northbound traffic on SR 316 should use SR 211/Bethlehem Road to US 78/Atlanta Highway before accessing Barber Creek Road. Drivers will have signed routes to aid navigation, and local roads might serve as possible alternatives.
Motorists are cautioned to reduce speed and stay alert in work zones. “With workers and heavy construction equipment always present, awareness is critical.” Variable Message Signs will inform the public of the work. Weather conditions might alter the schedule, so real-time updates are available through Georgia 511 services.
Georgia DOT is responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining state and federal highways, managing nearly 4,000 employees. Their work supports innovation, safety, and mobility across Georgia. More details on the project are available at a designated website.
