The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on May 8 that contractors will close two left lanes in both directions on Interstate 285 near the Bouldercrest Road bridge and the I-675 interchange from 8 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday.

The closure is part of ongoing work for the I-285 at Bouldercrest Road Interchange Improvement project in DeKalb County, which aims to improve safety for drivers and work crews as construction continues on the new Bouldercrest overpass from the interstate median.

According to the department, this $95 million project will reconstruct the I-285/Bouldercrest Road interchange, replace the existing Bouldercrest Road bridge over I-285, build five new bridges, and add new Collector-Distributor lanes between Bouldercrest Road and I-675. The improvements are intended to reduce vehicle accidents, better accommodate truck traffic, and improve traffic flow through this area now and in future years.

Drivers are advised to expect delays during these hours. The Georgia Department of Transportation reminds motorists to exercise caution when traveling through work zones. For real-time updates about road conditions or construction status, drivers can call 511, visit 511ga.org or use the Georgia 511 app.
