The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a temporary traffic pattern shift at the intersection of SR 42, known as Brookwood Avenue, and SR 16 or W 3rd Street in Butts County. This change will involve the removal of the center left turn lane on SR 42 North and will place two-way traffic into a contraflow movement. The traffic shift will commence on May 5, 2025, and is expected to last for 90 days to allow for grading of the shoulders and curbs necessary for the construction of a roundabout.
During this period, if one-lane traffic shifts are needed, Georgia DOT has stated that traffic control personnel will be on site to help manage congestion. The active work zone will be confined to operating hours between 9 am and 3 pm.
Motorists are warned that dates may change due to weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances, and they should prepare for potential delays. Drivers are encouraged to proceed cautiously and lower their speeds when traveling through the work zones.
For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, Georgia DOT recommends calling 511, visiting the website 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 mobile app.
A representative from the Georgia Department of Transportation emphasized the organization’s mission: “Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways. We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike, and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads. Georgia DOT and its nearly 4,000 employees are committed to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability and mobility. The Department’s vision is to boost Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.”
