The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced planned lane closures on Interstate 16 and the I-16/I-95 Interchange, as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. The closures are set to occur from June 2 through June 7, affecting both daytime and nighttime traffic.
According to Georgia DOT, “Weather permitting,” these measures are necessary for the widening activities on I-16 and bridge work at the I-16/I-516 Interchange. Daytime lane closures will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., while nighttime closures will occur from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Advance notice has been provided for detours that will be in effect during specific periods, with an assurance that “Closures and detours will be coordinated to ensure proper maintenance of traffic.” Motorists are advised to follow detour routes to minimize disruption.
In addition, a long-term closure is noted for Tremont Road under I-16, lasting until August 31, 2025. During this period, alternate routes have been suggested for motorists traveling north or south of I-16.
Georgia DOT emphasizes that “Exact time may change due to weather conditions,” advising motorists to stay informed about real-time traffic updates by calling 511 or visiting their website.
The department underscores its commitment to enhancing Georgia’s transportation system with a focus on innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility.
