The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced lane closures on Interstate 16 and the I-16/I-95 Interchange as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. These closures are necessary to facilitate the widening of I-16 and reconstruct bridge work at the I-16/I-516 Interchange.

The closures will occur from Monday, June 23, through Saturday, June 28, with varying schedules for daytime and nighttime. Daytime lane closures are set between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., while nighttime closures will take place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Double-lane closures are also planned during specific hours at the I-95 overpass.

In addition to these intermittent lane closures, detours will be implemented nightly from June 23 to June 28 between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The detours aim to ensure smooth traffic flow by coordinating so that no more than one ramp in the interchange is closed at any time.

A long-term closure on Tremont Road under I-16 will remain in effect until August 31, 2025. During this period, alternative routes have been provided for motorists traveling north or south of I-16.

Independence Day holiday work restrictions will apply from July 3 at noon until July 6 at 10 p.m., during which no road closures or traffic-interfering work will be conducted.

Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce speed in work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers. Real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions can be accessed by calling 511, visiting the website at 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.

Georgia DOT remains committed to enhancing transportation infrastructure across the state with a focus on innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility. “Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways,” stated a representative from Georgia DOT. “We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs.”
