The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 27 that several lane and ramp closures will take place along Interstate 16, Interstate 95, and related interchanges as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. The closures are scheduled from Sunday, March 29 through Friday, April 3, with both daytime and nighttime work planned.

These closures are necessary to support the widening of I-16 and reconstruction at the I-16/I-95 Interchange. Additional bridge work is also scheduled at both the I-95 overpass and the I-16/I-516 Interchange. Motorists are advised to check daily traffic impacts using Georgia NaviGAtor at www.511ga.org for real-time alerts.

Daytime lane closures will occur on various segments of westbound and eastbound I-16 between mileposts (MP) 157 to MP 164 from morning until mid-afternoon hours. Similar intermittent lane restrictions will be in place on westbound and eastbound I-516 near its interchange with I-16.

Nighttime operations include double-lane closures on northbound and southbound sections of I-95 near the I-16 overpass, as well as additional intermittent lane restrictions on adjacent stretches of interstate highways between evening hours through early morning.

Advance notice has been provided for a series of detours affecting ramps connecting these major routes. The department stated that only one ramp in each interchange will be closed at a time to minimize disruption, with all detours coordinated for proper maintenance of traffic flow. Detailed instructions have been issued for alternate routes during each closure period.

Motorists are urged to expect delays, exercise caution in work zones, reduce speed when traveling through affected areas, stay alert for workers, and monitor current conditions before traveling by calling 511 or visiting www.511ga.org.

The Georgia Department of Transportation oversees planning, construction, maintenance, public transit programs across state highways as well as assisting local governments with road upkeep.
