The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 20 that multiple lane and ramp closures will take place from Sunday, March 22, through Saturday, March 28, as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects in Chatham County. These closures are necessary to support widening activities on Interstate 16 and bridge work at both the I-16/I-95 and I-16/I-516 interchanges.

The planned closures are expected to impact both daytime and nighttime travel along key stretches of I-16, I-95, and I-516. Daytime intermittent right and left lane closures will occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., while nighttime closures—including double lane restrictions—are scheduled between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Detours have been outlined for affected ramps to ensure traffic flow is maintained during construction.

According to the advisory, detours will be coordinated so that no more than one ramp at the I-16/I-516 Interchange is closed at any given time. Motorists are advised to follow posted detour routes, expect delays, reduce speed in work zones, stay alert for workers, and check real-time updates before traveling by calling 511 or visiting www.511ga.org.

The Georgia Department of Transportation said its mission includes planning, constructing, and maintaining state and federal highways as well as supporting local governments with road maintenance. The department employs nearly 4,000 people focused on innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility within Georgia’s transportation system.

The department emphasized that exact closure times may change due to weather conditions or other factors affecting construction progress.
