The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced lane closures on Interstate 16 and Interstate 516 as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. These closures are aimed at widening I-16 and rebuilding the I-16/I-95 Interchange.
Daytime closures will occur from April 14 to April 18, with intermittent lane restrictions on I-16 westbound between the I-16/I-516 Interchange at mile post 164 and the I-16/I-95 Interchange at mile post 157. Similar closures will be seen on I-16 eastbound during the same period. I-516 will also experience lane changes both westbound and eastbound at the I-16 Interchange.
Nighttime closures will take place from April 14 to April 17, involving intermittent and double-lane closures on both I-16 and I-516, as well as the I-95 overpass.
A long-term closure affecting Tremont Road under I-16 will be in effect until May 31, 2025. Detour routes are provided for motorists affected by this closure.
Easter weekend will see a halt in construction activities, starting noon on April 18 and ending 7 p.m. on April 21, 2025.
Officials caution drivers to expect possible delays and advise them to stay alert for workers in construction zones. “Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.”
For real-time updates, drivers can refer to resources like the 511 service and website, the Georgia 511 mobile app, or contact Georgia DOT directly.
“Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs, and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways,” and remains committed to improving transportation in the state.
