The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced temporary lane closures as part of the I-285/I-20 West Interchange Project. Weather permitting, these closures will occur to facilitate geotechnical boring and the installation of signage on the median walls of the interchange.
This project aims to reconstruct and widen several interstate ramps and includes the addition of collector-distributor and auxiliary lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north of the interchange.
The lane closures are scheduled as follows:
– Weekend nighttime closures will occur from Saturday, May 3, through Sunday, May 4, 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., with a single left-lane and left-shoulder closure on I-285 northbound from SR139/Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to the I-20 Interchange. Subsequently, double lane closures will occur from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. at the same location.
– Weeknight closures are scheduled from Monday, May 5, through Tuesday, May 6, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. with a single lane closure, and from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. with double lane closures at the same site. From Monday, May 5, through Thursday, May 8, rolling left-lane closures will occur along several routes, including I-285 northbound, I-285 southbound, I-20 eastbound, and I-20 westbound.
– A single right-lane and right-shoulder closure will occur on Wednesday, May 7, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on SR 70/Fulton Industrial Boulevard northbound.
Motorists are advised that schedules may change due to weather conditions, and additional intermittent traffic pacing along with lane and ramp closures could occur within the work zone. GDOT advises drivers to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce speed in work zones. For real-time updates, drivers can call 511, visit 511ga.org, or use the Georgia 511 app.
