The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures on the I-285/I-20 East Interchange project. These closures are set to occur at various locations as part of the ongoing reconstruction efforts. The project aims to enhance the interchange by reconstructing system-to-system ramps and adding connecting lanes and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of it.
Weather permitting, traffic impacts will begin on Friday, May 23, 2025, and continue through Friday, May 30, 2025. During the Memorial Day holiday from May 23 at noon until May 27 at 10 p.m., there will be no road closures or work that restricts or interferes with traffic.
Daytime closures are scheduled from Wednesday, May 28 through Friday, May 30 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on I-20 Eastbound from Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road and Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road. Additionally, flagging operations will occur under the Snapfinger Road overpass and on Miller Road between Panola Industrial Boulevard and Chatooga Drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Overnight closures and traffic pacing are planned for Wednesday, May 28 through Friday, May 30 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. This includes single to double lane closures on I-20 Eastbound in multiple sections including connecting lanes from I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road.
For southbound travelers on I-285 from Glenwood to Interchange and northbound travelers from Columbia to Interchange, lane closures will occur overnight between May 28 and May 30 from either single or double right-lane configurations.
Westbound drivers should expect similar lane closure patterns during this period with alternating left-and-right lane configurations.
Traffic pacing operations are scheduled for both eastbound and westbound directions on I-20 within these dates between specified mile markers.
Finally, Miller Road Bridge over I-20 remains closed until approximately September 2025 with a detour in place for affected routes.
