The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures on the I-285/I-20 East Interchange as part of an ongoing reconstruction project. The work will focus on system-to-system ramps and will include additional collector-distributor lanes and auxiliary lanes.
Weather permitting, these closures will affect traffic from Friday, May 9, through Friday, May 16, 2025. During this period, both daytime and overnight lane closures are planned. Daytime closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., while overnight closures are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
For I-20 eastbound traffic, single right or left-lane and shoulder closures are planned between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, and connecting lanes from the I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road.
Flagging operations are set for Snapfinger Road under the I-285 overpass and Miller Road between Panola Industrial Boulevard and Chatooga Drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Overnight closures will involve single to double lane reductions on various segments of I-20 eastbound and westbound. This includes sections from Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, Glenwood to the interchange for southbound traffic on I-285, and Columbia to the interchange for northbound traffic.
Additionally, there will be traffic pacing operations affecting both directions of I-20 from the I-285 Interchange to Panola Road during nighttime hours.
Miller Road Bridge over I-20 remains closed until approximately September 2025 with detours in place.
These activities aim at improving traffic flow in one of Atlanta’s key interchange areas.
