The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on May 8 that temporary interstate lane closures will take place as part of the I-285/I-20 East Interchange project, scheduled from Friday, May 8, through Friday, May 15, 2026. The closures are weather permitting and will affect multiple segments of I-20 and I-285.
According to the announcement, the project involves reconstructing system-to-system ramps at the interchange and adding collector-distributor and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange. Daytime closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on various stretches of I-20 Eastbound between Columbia Drive and Fairington Road, as well as flagging operations at Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway and Chupp Way at Fairington Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Overnight closures are planned from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., affecting both directions on I-20 and both northbound and southbound lanes on I-285 near the interchange. Specific locations include single to double lane and shoulder closures on several segments such as Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, Glenwood to interchange areas, among others. There will also be traffic shifts on I-20 Westbound at Snapfinger Creek Bridge from May 8 through May 10 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
