The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) announced a series of lane closures on I-285/I-20 East as part of ongoing construction efforts to improve the interchange. Weather permitting, these closures will affect traffic from April 18 to April 25, 2025, while crews work to reconstruct the system-to-system ramps at the interchange and add both collector-distributor and auxiliary lanes.
Daytime closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., affecting I-20 Eastbound, including single lane and shoulder closures between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, and between Columbia Drive and Wesley Chapel Road. Additionally, Snapfinger Road and Miller Road will experience flagging operations under specific overpasses.
Overnight closures from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. will take place on I-20 Eastbound and Westbound, with single to double lane and shoulder closures in various segments from Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road, and from Wesley Chapel Road to Columbia Drive. I-285 Southbound and Northbound will also experience lane closures from Glenwood to the interchange and from Columbia to the interchange, respectively.
Detours and other traffic operations are planned, including a traffic pacing operation from Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road during the night. The Miller Road Bridge over I-20 will be closed with a detour until approximately September 2025. DeKalb Medical Parkway will be continuously closed from April 25 to April 28, 2025.
The Georgia DOT advises travelers to plan for these closures and detours while they continue these infrastructure improvements.
