The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures on the I-285/I-20 West Interchange as part of an ongoing project. The closures, intended for geotechnical borings and utility location, will occur nightly at various locations, weather permitting.
This project aims to reconstruct and widen several interstate ramps at the interchange, incorporating collector-distributor lanes or connecting lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north.
Scheduled nighttime closures include a single right-lane and right-shoulder closure from Friday, June 6, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., at I-20 westbound between Anderson Avenue underpass (mile marker 53.6) and Riverside Parkway (mile marker 47). From Monday, June 9 through Saturday, June 14, similar closures will take place at Six Flags Parkway from Lee Industrial Boulevard to South Service Road; Harwell Road from Collier Drive to Amhurst Drive; Delmar Lane from Arlington Drive to Harwell Road; Fairburn Road from Argus Circle to Fairlane Drive; and Collier Drive from Harwell Road to Collier Court.
Additionally, alternating lane closures will be implemented on I-20 eastbound from Riverside Parkway to the I-285 Interchange during the same dates. On Friday, June 13 through Saturday, June 14, there will be double right-lane and shoulder closures on this stretch.
Motorists should anticipate potential delays due to these activities. “Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones,” according to Georgia DOT. For real-time updates on traffic conditions and work status, drivers can call 511 or visit the Georgia DOT website.
