The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced upcoming lane closures as part of the 16@95 Improvement Projects, which involve widening Interstate 16 (I-16) and reconstructing the I-16/I-95 Interchange. These closures are scheduled to begin on Monday, May 12, and will continue through Saturday, May 17.

Daytime lane closures will occur between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange to the I-16/I-95 Interchange. Similarly, eastbound lanes will be affected from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nighttime closures are planned from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., impacting both directions on I-16 and sections of I-516.

Detours are planned for specific ramps at various times, with efforts made to ensure they do not conflict with each other. Continuous right-lane closures on I-16 eastbound at the I-16/I-516 Interchange will take place from Friday, May 16, through Monday, May 19.

In addition to these short-term disruptions, Tremont Road under I-16 has been closed since June 26, 2022, and will remain so until May 31, 2025.

For Memorial Day weekend, work restrictions will apply from noon on Friday, May 23 until Tuesday morning at five o’clock on May 27. During this period no roadwork or traffic interference is planned.

Motorists should anticipate delays and exercise caution while traveling through work zones. They can obtain real-time updates by calling Georgia’s travel information line or using their website or app.

“Georgia Department of Transportation plans,” said an official statement regarding their role in maintaining state infrastructure including highways and bridges across Georgia.
