The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced potential traffic impacts due to the 16@95 Improvement Projects, which aim to widen I-16 and reconstruct the I-16/I-95 Interchange. These construction activities will involve lane and ramp closures at various locations.

From Monday, June 2, through Saturday, June 7, daytime closures are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with intermittent right- and left-lane closures on I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange (MP 164) to the I-16/I-95 Interchange (MP 157). Similar closures will occur on I-16 eastbound during the same period from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additionally, I-516 will experience intermittent lane closures both westbound and eastbound at the I-16 Interchange.

Nighttime closures are planned for the same dates between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., affecting both directions of I-16 between MP 164 and MP 157. Double-lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound at the I-16 overpass are also scheduled nightly from June 2 through June 7.

Long-term detours have been coordinated to avoid conflicts, ensuring only one ramp in each interchange is closed at any time. From Thursday, June 5, through Saturday, June 7, nightly detours will affect ramps connecting various directions of travel between I-95 and I-16.

A significant long-term closure involves Tremont Road under I-16 from June 26, 2022, through August 31, 2025. Motorists should follow designated detour routes via Telfair Road and West Gwinnett Street for access around this closure.

Further daytime and nighttime closures are planned for later in June with similar patterns as earlier in the month. Detours will be implemented as needed to maintain traffic flow during these periods.

For daily updates on traffic impacts or real-time alerts related to these projects, motorists can visit Georgia NaviGAtor at www.511ga.org.

“Note: The following detours will be scheduled so they will not conflict with one another,” stated Georgia DOT officials regarding advance notice and detour plans.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly during these construction periods to minimize inconvenience caused by these necessary improvements.
