The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced potential traffic impacts due to the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. These projects aim to widen I-16 and reconstruct the I-16/I-95 Interchange. The construction activities will involve lane and ramp closures at various locations, weather permitting.

From Monday, June 9, through Saturday, June 14, daytime closures are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with intermittent right- and left-lane closures on I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange (MP 164) to the I-16/I-95 Interchange (MP 157). Similarly, closures on I-16 eastbound will occur daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nighttime closures during this period are planned from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., affecting both directions of I-16 between the same interchanges.

Double-lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound at the I-16 overpass are scheduled nightly from June 9 through June 14, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Detours have been organized to minimize conflicts and ensure smooth traffic flow. “No more than one ramp in the I-95/I-16 Interchange will be closed at a time,” according to Georgia DOT.

The project also includes long-term closure plans for Tremont Road under I-16, which began on June 26, 2022, and is expected to continue until August 31, 2025.

Further lane closures are planned for later in June. From Monday, June 16 through Saturday, June 28, similar daytime and nighttime schedules will apply for both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-16 as well as specific ramps connecting with other highways.

Motorists are advised to check Georgia NaviGAtor at www.511ga.org for daily updates on traffic impacts and real-time alerts related to these construction activities.
