The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures on the I-285/I-20 West Interchange project. The closures are scheduled for weeknights, weather permitting, to install a Smart Work Zone system. This technology aims to enhance safety for construction workers and provide drivers with real-time traffic updates.

The project involves reconstructing and widening several interstate ramps at the interchange. It will also add collector-distributor lanes, connecting lanes, and auxiliary lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north of the interchange.

Lane closures will occur from Wednesday, May 21, through Thursday, May 22, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The affected areas include:

– A single right-lane and right-shoulder closure on I-20 eastbound from Riverside Parkway to State Route 70/Fulton Industrial Boulevard.
– I-20 westbound from the Anderson Avenue underpass to the Six Flags Drive underpass.
– I-285 southbound from US 278/SR 8/Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway to the I-20 Interchange.
– The ramp from I-20 eastbound to I-285 southbound from Fairburn Road overpass to SR 139/Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
– The ramp from I-285 westbound to Collier Drive underpass.

Additionally, there will be a right shoulder closure on I-285 northbound from Collier Drive underpass to US 278/SR 8/Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway during the same time frame.

Holiday work restrictions will be in place starting Friday, May 23, at noon until Tuesday, May 27, at 10 p.m., with no road closures or work affecting traffic during this period.

Motorists should expect delays and exercise caution while traveling through these work zones. Real-time information on work status and traffic conditions is available by calling 511 or visiting 511ga.org.
