The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on May 27 that lane closures and a new traffic pattern will begin next week at the intersection of State Route 81 and New Morn Drive.

According to the announcement, the change is part of stage three in the construction of a roundabout at this location. The work will involve building the center island and concrete medians. During this phase, traffic on both SR 81 and New Morn Drive will move into a circle pattern at the intersection.

Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. The department recommends checking real-time information on work status and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or downloading the Georgia 511 app.

The Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs, and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways. The agency is also involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike, and pedestrian programs. It works with local governments to help maintain roads across the state. The department employs about 4,000 staff members with an operating budget over $4.5 billion and operates under the State Transportation Board; it delivers transportation solutions that support economic development statewide according to the official website.

Additional details about this project can be found in the organization’s press release.
