The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary nighttime lane closures as part of the I-285/I-20 West Interchange Project. These closures are necessary for geotechnical borings and utility location in preparation for upcoming construction activities. The project aims to reconstruct and widen several interstate ramps at the interchange, adding a combination of collector-distributor lanes, connecting lanes, and auxiliary lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north.
The lane closures will occur nightly from Monday, June 23, through Friday, June 27. Specific locations include Six Flags Parkway, Harwell Road, Delmar Lane, Fairburn Road, Collier Drive, I-20 westbound and eastbound sections, I-285 southbound sections, SR 70/Fulton Industrial Boulevard, and SR 139/Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Motorists are advised that exact times may change due to weather conditions. “There may be intermittent traffic pacing and lane and ramp closures that occur within the work zone in addition to this notice,” Georgia DOT warns. Drivers should expect delays and exercise caution while traveling through these areas.
For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, drivers can call 511 or visit 511ga.org. Additionally, they can download the Georgia 511 app for more information.
