Multiple road closures and changes to traffic patterns are set to take place in east-central Georgia, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT). The department and its construction contractors have scheduled these adjustments for the coming days.
In Greene County, State Route 15 will be closed to through traffic at English School Road, approximately one mile southeast of Siloam, beginning Wednesday, September 3. This closure follows a shoulder washout due to insufficient water flow. Maintenance crews from Georgia DOT plan to remove and replace the pipe beneath the road. Weather permitting, work is expected to finish by Saturday, September 6. A detour route will direct drivers from Siloam via SR 77 north to I-20, I-20 east to Exit 148/SR 22, and SR 22 south back to SR 15.
Wilkinson County will see lane reductions on US Route 441 near State Route 112 as part of ongoing construction of a roundabout at that intersection. On Thursday, September 4, the right-hand lanes in both directions on US 441 at the intersection will close. Speed limits approaching this area will decrease from 65 mph to 55 mph before entering the work zone and from 55 mph to 45 mph after passing through it. These changes are expected to remain for several months during roundabout construction.
In Laurens County, Scotland Road between US Route 441 and Doyle Taylor Road is scheduled for closure starting Monday, September 8. This measure is part of efforts to widen US 441 south of Interstate 16 and involves realigning Scotland Road so it meets US 441 at Springhaven Road’s existing intersection. The closure should last about two weeks if weather allows; once completed, traffic will shift onto the new alignment. During this period, access from Scotland Road to US 441 will be available via Doyle Taylor Road.
Drivers are encouraged by Georgia DOT officials to anticipate delays and use caution when traveling through these work zones: “Drivers are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce their speed, stay alert, and watch for workers while navigating work zones.” They also recommend checking current conditions before traveling: “Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.”
