The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced a series of road closures and traffic pattern changes in east-central Georgia. These changes are set to take place over the coming weeks as part of ongoing construction projects.

In Laurens County, a traffic pattern change is scheduled for US Route 441/US Route 319/State Route 31, just south of Dublin and Interstate 16. This change will occur between Pinehill Road and Scotland Road on Wednesday, July 23. The project aims to widen the route into a four-lane divided highway. Initially, the existing four-lane roadway will be reduced to two lanes by closing the left lanes in both directions. Traffic will then be redirected onto new southbound lanes, allowing construction activities to continue on the current northbound lanes.

Jefferson County will see State Route 171 closed to through traffic between State Route 540/The Fall Line Freeway and US Route 221/State Route 24 from Monday, July 28 until Thursday, July 31. This closure is due to a pipe crossing repair at SR 171 and US 221/SR 24 intersection west of Louisville. Drivers will be directed via detour signs through SR 540 east to SR 296, then south on SR 296 to US 221 through Louisville.

In Richmond County, daytime lane closures are planned for US Route1/State Route4 between Tobacco Road and South Prong Creek starting Wednesday, July23. This is part of a resurfacing project where paving operations have been completed using overnight lane closures. Crews will now focus on building shoulders and installing new permanent striping and reflective pavement markings.

Schedules may change depending on weather conditions. Drivers are advised to exercise caution in work zones by reducing speed and staying alert for workers. For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, call511 or visit511ga.org.
