The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced ongoing road work throughout Southeast Georgia, scheduled from Saturday, June 28 through Friday, July 4. This work includes construction and maintenance projects on various interstates and state routes.
To accommodate the Independence Day holiday, lane closure restrictions will be enforced on interstate and major state routes from 12 p.m., Thursday, July 3 until 10 p.m., Sunday, July 6. During this period, no construction or maintenance-related lane closures that could interfere with traffic will be allowed.
All scheduled work is subject to change due to weather conditions or other factors. Motorists are advised to reduce speed in work zones and remain alert for workers.
Specific traffic interruptions include:
– On Interstate 95: Overnight lane closures at various locations including Camden County’s St. Marys River Bridge for repairs; McIntosh County between SR 99 & SR 251 for highway maintenance; Chatham County for sign improvements and bridge maintenance rehabilitation; Glynn County for resurfacing; and Bryan County for roadway maintenance.
– On Interstate 16: Daily single left lane closures under the Chatham Parkway Bridge in Chatham County for structural repairs; shoulder closures in Laurens, Bryan, and Bulloch Counties for infrastructure installation.
– On Interstate 516: Continuous nightly lane closures from Louisville Rd to Tremont Rd in Chatham County for bridge maintenance.
Additional projects involve bridge replacements with detours in Clinch and Jeff Davis Counties, as well as bridge rehabilitation across multiple counties including Glynn and Chatham. Resurfacing efforts are underway in Liberty, Wayne, Telfair, Montgomery Counties among others.
Motorists should expect delays and exercise caution while traveling through these areas. For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, GDOT encourages drivers to call 511 or visit their website at 511ga.org.
“Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways,” said a GDOT spokesperson. “We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads.”
GDOT emphasizes its commitment to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility. The department aims to enhance Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.
