The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is continuing its road work in Southeast Georgia from March 29 through April 4. The work includes construction and maintenance projects that may result in traffic interruptions. GDOT advises that “all work is subject to change due to weather or other factors” and urges motorists to “reduce their speed” and “pay attention and watch for workers” while traveling through work zones.

Significant projects include repairs and lane closures on Interstate 95, with various closures in Camden, Chatham, Bryan, and Bulloch Counties. I-95 North at the Florida State Line will see overnight lane closures due to the St. Marys River Bridge repairs. Other I-95 projects involve concrete footer pouring and bridge maintenance, with nightly lane closures scheduled.

Interstate 16 work includes single lane closures under and over the Chatham Parkway Bridge and from Milepost 111 to 138 for concrete pavement repairs and striping.

Bridges and roads such as Antioch Church Road, Birdford Lake Road, and Post Road will have closures with detours for bridge replacements and storm damage repairs.

Resurfacing work is scheduled on several roads, including SR 4/520 in Ware County and SR 17 in Screven County, with daily lane closures for asphalt resurfacing.

Other traffic interruptions involve road widening, asphalt leveling, and paving operations on roads like DeRenne Avenue in Chatham County and US 17/SR 25 in Glynn County.

GDOT reminds motorists of possible delays and advises checking the latest traffic conditions via their information services.

“Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways. We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads,” GDOT states.

For real-time updates on current traffic conditions, GDOT encourages the public to call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
