The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced ongoing road work throughout Southeast Georgia for the week of November 22 to November 28, 2025. Construction and maintenance projects will continue during this period, but there will be a suspension of construction-related lane closures on interstate highways and major state routes from 5 a.m. Wednesday, November 26 through 10 p.m. Sunday, November 30 to improve safety for Thanksgiving holiday travelers.
Georgia DOT warns that all scheduled work is subject to change depending on weather or other factors. Motorists are urged to reduce speed in work zones, remain attentive, and watch for workers.
Projects include lane closures along Interstate 95 at several locations in Chatham, Effingham, Camden, Bryan, and Glynn counties for bridge maintenance, resurfacing, core sampling, and widening efforts by both the South Carolina and Florida departments of transportation. On Interstate 16 in Chatham County, daily and nightly single lane closures are expected for travel lane shifts and resurfacing under the Chatham Parkway Bridge through December 2, 2025. Other sections of I-16 in Candler and Effingham counties will have shoulder closures for installation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment.
Interstate 516 in Chatham County will see continuous nightly lane closures as crews conduct bridge maintenance and install markings between Louisville Road and Tremont Road.
Several bridge replacement projects require full or partial road closures with detours. Notably, Lewis Frasier Road at Peacock Creek in Liberty County is closed for up to 150 days due to bridge replacement.
Additional construction includes bridge rehabilitation on SR 25/US17 at Cypress Mill Creek and SR520/US82 at College Creek in Glynn County; painting and joint repairs on SR38 WB/SR23 at Altamaha River Bridge between Long & Wayne Counties; traffic shifts on US84/SR38 at Doctors Creek in Long County; median crossover detours at Little McMillan Creek in Wayne County; and single-lane traffic over Satilla River Bridge between Pierce/Ware Counties.
Resurfacing operations are planned across multiple routes including SR89/US441 in Clinch County, SR38/US84 in Liberty and Wayne counties, SR196 in Liberty County, SR117 in Telfair County, and SR135 in Jeff Davis County.
Other interruptions involve flagging operations for utility work on Goshen Road (Effingham), daily lane closures with paving on Burnsed Blvd (Chatham), road widening on US301/SR73 (Bulloch), daily flagging operations along SR119 (Bulloch/Effingham), as well as various improvements along SR25 (Glynn).
Motorists are advised to anticipate delays throughout these areas. The public can obtain real-time updates by calling 511 or visiting the 511ga.org website or using the Georgia 511 app.
