The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced ongoing road work across Southeast Georgia from May 17 to May 23. The construction and maintenance projects will affect several interstates, including I-95, I-16, and I-516, with potential traffic interruptions.

GDOT advises motorists to reduce speed in work zones and remain alert for workers. All scheduled work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.

For Interstate 95, notable projects include repairs on the St. Marys River Bridge at the Florida State Line in Camden County and concrete footer pouring for signs between mileposts 90 and 91 in Chatham County. Nightly lane closures are planned along various sections of I-95 through June 2025.

Interstate 16 will see single left lane closures under the Chatham Parkway Bridge for structural repairs until June 10, 2025. On Interstate 516, bridge maintenance from Louisville Road to Tremont Road will involve continuous nightly lane closures until August 31, 2025.

Bridge replacements are scheduled on Antioch Church Road over Surveyors Creek in Clinch County and Post Road in Jeff Davis County. Both sites have detours set up during their respective closure periods.

In Wayne County, a roundabout construction project at Rayonier Road and Spring Grove Road is nearing completion with daily shoulder closures expected through the second quarter of this year.

Resurfacing operations will occur on SR 38/US 84 in Liberty County and SR 169 across Wayne and Appling Counties among others. Temporary traffic stoppages are anticipated during these activities.

Other significant works include road widening on US 80/SR26/Ogeechee Rd in Chatham County with daily lane closures expected as utilities work proceeds alongside bridge demolition efforts over CSX Railroad tracks.

Motorists can obtain real-time traffic updates by calling Georgia’s free phone service at “511,” which provides information about conditions on state routes and interstates statewide. Additional details are available online at www.511ga.org.

The GDOT remains committed to enhancing transportation infrastructure throughout Georgia while ensuring safety and sustainability across its projects statewide.
