Weather permitting, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will conduct temporary lane closures as part of ongoing construction efforts at the I-285/I-20 East Interchange. This project aims to reconstruct system-to-system ramps and add connecting lanes and auxiliary lanes to improve traffic flow.

Traffic impacts on the I-285/I-20 Interchange project will occur from Friday, April 4, through Friday, April 11, 2025. Daytime closures will be effective from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on I-20 Eastbound, affecting lanes and shoulder closures between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, Columbia Drive and Wesley Chapel Road, and within the connecting lanes from I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road. Flagging operations will occur on Snapfinger Road under the I-285 overpass and on Miller Road between Panola Industrial Boulevard and Chatooga Drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Overnight closures and traffic pacing are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. for I-20 Eastbound between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, and from the I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road. The North and Southbound lanes of I-285 will experience right-lane and shoulder closures, ranging from single to double lane, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., between Glenwood and Interchange, and from Columbia to Interchange. I-20 Westbound will also see alternating lane and shoulder closures, along with traffic pacing operations.

Traffic pacing operations on I-20 Westbound will take place from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Wesley Chapel Road and Columbia Drive, as well as from the I-285 Interchange to Panola Road. Traffic shift in eastbound lanes will be active from 9 p.m. to 12 p.m.

Closures and detours include the continuous closure of the Miller Road Bridge over I-20 until approximately September 2025. Flagging operations will maintain access on Snapfinger Road and on Miller Road, which will continue until the bridge project’s completion.

For further details on detours and closures, Georgia DOT provides additional information through their communications office.
