The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures on the I-285/I-20 East Interchange as part of an ongoing reconstruction project. These closures are scheduled from Friday, June 27, through Wednesday, July 2, 2025, and are contingent upon weather conditions.
The project aims to reconstruct the system-to-system ramps at the interchange and add collector-distributor lanes and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of it.
Daytime closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., affecting various sections of I-20 Eastbound between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, and connecting lanes from the I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road. Additionally, Snapfinger Road under the I-285 overpass and Miller Road between Panola Industrial Boulevard and Chatooga Drive will have flagging operations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Overnight closures are planned from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., with single to double lane closures on I-20 Eastbound between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, and connecting lanes from the I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road. Similar closures will affect I-285 Southbound from the interchange to Columbia Drive between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., as well as other sections throughout this period.
I-20 Westbound will experience alternating lane closures between Panola Road and Wesley Chapel Road nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., with additional traffic pacing operations scheduled during these hours.
The Miller Road Bridge over I-20 remains closed until approximately September 2025 due to continuous construction activities.
No roadwork or traffic restrictions will be conducted during Independence Day weekend starting Thursday, July 3rd at 10 p.m., through Monday, July 7th at 10 p.m.
