The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced continued road work throughout Southeast Georgia from May 31 to June 6. The construction and maintenance projects are essential, but motorists should be aware that all work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, pay attention, and watch for workers in these areas.

Traffic interruptions will occur on Interstate 95 across several counties. In Camden County at the St. Marys River Bridge, overnight lane closures will take place due to repairs. Liberty and Bryan Counties will experience nightly lane closures for asphalt resurfacing between Jones Rd. Overpass and Rail Road Bridge south of Exit 87.

In McIntosh County, lane closures are scheduled between SR 99 & SR 251 for highway maintenance through June 30. Chatham County will see northbound and southbound left lane closures for concrete footer pouring and bridge maintenance rehabilitation.

On Interstate 16, daily single left lane closures will occur under the Chatham Parkway Bridge in Chatham County for structural repairs until mid-June. Laurens County will have shoulder closures on both eastbound and westbound lanes for power cabinet installations until June 14.

Interstate 516 in Chatham County is undergoing bridge maintenance with continuous nightly lane closures through August.

Bridge and road closures with detours include Antioch Church Rd over Surveyors Creek in Clinch County, closed until August for a bridge replacement, with a detour via US routes.

Several counties including Glynn, Long, Pierce/Ware, Wayne/Appling, Telfair, Montgomery, Liberty & Long are experiencing various projects such as bridge construction and rehabilitation along with resurfacing operations causing temporary traffic stoppages and flagging operations.

Motorists should expect delays during this period and are advised to get real-time information by calling 511 or visiting the website 511ga.org.

“The Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways,” according to their statement. “We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs.”

Georgia DOT emphasizes its commitment to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility as part of its vision to enhance Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.
