The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced potential traffic impacts due to the 16@95 Improvement Projects. The construction will involve lane and ramp closures on Interstate 16 and the reconstruction of the I-16/I-95 Interchange. These closures are necessary for widening activities on I-16, as well as bridge work on I-95 and at the I-16/I-516 Interchange.

Weather permitting, daytime closures are scheduled from Monday, June 30, through Thursday, July 3. Lane closures will occur intermittently during specified hours on both westbound and eastbound sections of I-16 and I-516. Nighttime closures are also planned for the same period with similar intermittent lane restrictions.

Advance notice has been given regarding detours that will be implemented to ensure proper maintenance of traffic flow. “Closures and detours will be coordinated to ensure proper maintenance of traffic,” according to Georgia DOT.

A long-term closure is in effect from June 26, 2022, through August 31, 2025, affecting Tremont Road under I-16. Motorists are advised to follow alternative routes via Telfair Road and West Gwinnett Street.

Independence Day holiday work restrictions will prevent any road closures or work that interferes with traffic from July 3 at noon until July 6 at 10 p.m.

Future projected closures have been outlined for early July with similar schedules for daytime and nighttime lane restrictions on I-16 and associated interchanges.
