Utility work connected to the State Route 441 Phase 2 widening project in Rabun County will impact traffic at Pinnacle Road and Claybourne Street beginning December 1, 2025. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced that Georgia Power Transmission will install new power poles and overhead transmission lines in this area.

Crews from Georgia Power met with GDOT and Vertical Earth on site to coordinate the work schedule and plan for traffic management during the utility installation. Work is expected to take place from December 1 through December 11, weather permitting. A crane will be used for lifting and setting poles, and while Georgia Power may have access to this equipment until December 18, completion at this location is anticipated by December 11 if weather allows.

The construction activities will require intermittent disruptions to traffic near Pinnacle Road and Claybourne Street due to the presence of heavy equipment. GDOT has requested that Georgia Power minimize lane closures and limit stoppages in order to prevent significant backups along the corridor.

Drivers traveling through the area should expect occasional stopped traffic, slower movement within the work zone, and flagging operations as needed to direct vehicles.

“Motorists are urged to use caution, follow posted signs, and obey flaggers while traveling through the area,” according to GDOT. “GDOT appreciates the public’s patience as utility relocation continues for the 441 Phase 2 widening project.”

The department also advises that work dates could change due to weather or other unforeseen factors. Motorists are reminded to reduce speed in work zones, remain alert, and watch for workers. Real-time updates on project status and traffic conditions can be accessed by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.

GDOT is responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining state and federal highways across Georgia. The agency is also involved in bridge maintenance, waterways, public transit, rail services, aviation infrastructure, bicycle routes, pedestrian programs, and supports local governments with road upkeep. Nearly 4,000 employees are focused on delivering a transportation system prioritizing innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility. The department aims to enhance Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.
