The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced upcoming lane closures and traffic pacing as part of the ongoing I-285/I-20 East Interchange project. These closures, set to begin Friday, January 30, 2026, and continue through Friday, February 6, 2026, are weather permitting.

The project aims to reconstruct system-to-system ramps at the I-285/I-20 East Interchange. It will also add new collector-distributor and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange.

Daytime lane and shoulder closures on I-20 Eastbound will occur from Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road, from Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, and between the I-285 Interchange and Wesley Chapel Road from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Flagging operations are scheduled for Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway and Miller Road over I-20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Overnight closures are planned for both eastbound and westbound lanes on I-20 as well as northbound and southbound lanes on I-285. These will take place between 7 p.m. or 8 p.m., depending on location, until early morning hours. Specific locations include single to double lane closures between various mile markers such as Wesley Chapel Road, Panola Road, Columbia Drive, Glenwood Road, Fairington Road Overpass, and associated ramps.

Flagging operations will also be in effect during daytime hours at designated intersections affected by construction activity.

Georgia DOT reminds drivers that these schedules may change due to weather conditions. The department encourages motorists to stay informed about updates related to this project.
