Jason Willingham has been appointed as the new district engineer for District 4/Southwest Georgia, succeeding Scott Chambers, who is retiring at the end of the month. Willingham’s appointment became effective on May 16. Previously, he served as the District Preconstruction Engineer since April 2020.
“I am excited and honored to continue to serve the traveling public and the citizens of Georgia as the Georgia Department of Transportation’s District 4 Engineer,” said Willingham. His responsibilities will include overseeing operations within the district’s 31 counties and supervising a staff of about 400 people. The role also involves collaboration with the State Transportation Board and local and state government officials across southwest Georgia.
Corbett Reynolds, Georgia DOT Director of Field Services, expressed confidence in Willingham’s capabilities, stating that his “expertise and leadership will be instrumental in advancing the district’s initiatives.”
Willingham holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Southern Polytechnic State University, now part of Kennesaw State University, and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Tennessee. He is a licensed Professional Engineer with extensive experience in roadway design roles at Georgia DOT.
A native Georgian, Willingham resides in Irwin County with his wife Courtney and their children Grayson and Adalynn. The district office is located at 710 W. Second Street in Tifton, with additional area offices in Valdosta, Douglas, Donalsonville, Moultrie, and Albany.
