The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced the awarding of a construction contract valued at $2.7 million to E.R. Snell Inc. The project, located at the intersection of SR 124 and CR 47/Old Hog Mountain Road in northeast Barrow County, aims to enhance safety through the construction of a single-lane roundabout.
The decision follows a Traffic Engineering study conducted in August 2017, which identified safety concerns at the intersection. The study recommended a roundabout as the optimal solution for reducing crash frequency and severity.
“The new roundabout will feature a geometry design to slow vehicle speeds and reduce conflict points, leading to fewer and less severe collisions,” stated GDOT officials. These improvements are anticipated to benefit both motorists and the surrounding community significantly.
The project is scheduled for completion by March 31, 2027, contingent on weather conditions. “GDOT remains committed to improving safety and mobility across Georgia’s transportation network,” GDOT expressed, urging public patience and cooperation during construction.
Further updates on the project can be accessed through GDOT’s website or their social media platforms @GDOTNE_.
