Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has awarded 24 contracts totaling approximately $98.1 million for transportation projects across the state, according to decisions made at the State Transportation Board meeting in June.
The largest resurfacing project, valued at over $24 million, will cover nearly 12 miles of I-95/State Route 405 in Bryan and Chatham counties. Another significant resurfacing contract, estimated at $6.8 million, will address more than eight miles on SR 11 in Bibb County. Together with six other resurfacing projects, these represent over half of the funds awarded this month.
A major construction contract worth about $16 million will bring two new roundabouts to SR 7 BUS (Ashley Street) and SR 7 ALT (Patterson Street/Smithbriar Drive/Brookfield Road), as well as to North Valdosta Road at North Oak Street Extension in Lowndes County. An additional roundabout project on SR 92 in Fulton County is valued at more than $3.1 million. Three other bridge and approach construction projects in Fulton, Elbert, and Laurens counties each received contracts valued at roughly $2.9 million or less.
Safety improvements make up the remaining portion of June’s awards, with 11 projects totaling about $19 million. These include upgrades such as LED lighting systems, signage enhancements, pavement marking improvements, rumble strip installations, and ramp updates throughout Georgia. The largest safety investment—over $5.1 million—will upgrade LED lighting on key interstates and streets in Fulton County.
For Fiscal Year 2025, which ended June 30, Georgia DOT awarded a total of 263 infrastructure investment projects statewide with a combined value approaching $2.2 billion. Of these projects, most were let by Georgia DOT itself while others were managed locally; bridge investments accounted for the largest share of spending.
Contractors interested in participating must prequalify with Georgia DOT before bidding or performing work on future projects. More information can be found on the department’s website: https://www.dot.ga.gov/GDOT/Pages/DBE.aspx.
